One of my favorite aspects of the Destiny universe is that it isn’t just one thing. There’s PvP, PvE, and PvPvE for Guardians to enjoy (or, in my case, die horrifically in – Iron Banana, I simply can’t get enough of you), but one player in particular has made a reputation for herself as the Queen of Gambit, and it’s simple to see why. I really mean it when I say she’s a legend, so let’s get right into it with our newest Community Focus feature, Silver, the Gambit Queen.
First and foremost, how are you? By living up to the title of Queen of Gambit, you’ve earned a superb reputation in the community. Tell us a little about yourself and how you got started in gaming.
Hey! My name is Silver, and I’ve been playing video games since Destiny 1. I’m not one of those fortunate people who has had the opportunity to play video games their whole lives, so I got into gaming mostly via Destiny, and that hasn’t changed much over the years. My closest buddy at the time streamed Destiny for me, and I remember being blown away by how beautiful it looked. I’m not sure what it was, but I recall asking folks throughout the years, “Hey, should I purchase an Xbox or a PlayStation?” Following that, it became quite clear how divisive some of the viewpoints in this arena are. Fortunately, I was surrounded by some very wonderful folks who were willing to assist me find out my role in it. My closest buddy was the one who convinced me to jump into the Destiny universe and join Team Blue, which led to when I received my first PlayStation, which came with that game and a number of others that I never got to play since it was love at first sight with my Guardian. I drove my companion insane on my first day as a new player at the Cosmodrome by jogging around everywhere instead of using a Sparrow since it was such a lovely environment and it felt like home.
That’s so nice, and I adore it. It’s really vital to have a game that means so much to you, and it helps more than I believe some people understand.
Okay, look, I’ll be honest with you: I like Gambit just as much as the next Guardian, but what is it about it that makes you so enamored with it? Because, honestly?, someone with your statistics in this mode is unusual. It’s extremely, truly remarkable.
Gambit is one of my favorite games since it is so unique. It combines the two sides of the Destiny coin, PvP and PvE, into a highly exciting online experience. If I’m in the mood for some PvP, I’ll throw on a Sniper Rifle and go to town! It’s the best feeling in the world to return from an invasion with an Army of One Medal. If I don’t feel like I’m getting along with the PvP side of things because we all have bad days, I can simply play Reaper and kill as many opponents as I can so that my teammates can bank the Motes.
I’d want to point out that Gambit has the potential to be successful since it is really a collective effort. One or two players might really push the advantage, but it’s ultimately a team-based experience. Although playing in a more competitive manner might be enjoyable, I approach Gambit with the idea that everyone can play it and have a good time, particularly if they are accompanied by the appropriate people! It’s not about winning, while winning is a wonderful experience; it’s more about assisting people in discovering new ways to enjoy a game mode. At least, that’s how it seems to me, and I believe I’ve done a pretty good job of creating a safe haven for people who share my feelings.

Is it possible for you to make me “git gud?” Just joking, there’s no chance for me, but I’m curious about your thoughts on Gambit’s future. Is there anything you’d want to add or change? Is there anything you’d prefer to be taken away?
No way, no how. We can definitely turn you into a full-fledged Dredgen! I adore meeting new people and seeing them have fun. I’d like to see Gambit take a more traditional approach to its beginnings. To me, Gambit was at its best in Gambit Prime, and I’ve seen the adjustments made in Season of the Risen, and they’ve been a fascinating shift to adjust to. That being said, I’d love to see another Season devoted to Gambit because if I could go back in time and put one item back into Destiny, it’d be Gambit Prime, with its armor and vital roles that carry on in the Gambit community long after Prime has vanished.
For most of the folks I know who have been even more devoted with Gambit than others, the new adjustments this Season have placed it in an odd spot. I’m talking about crafting builds, mapping the best spots to push waves, and optimum loadouts; the same type of strategy that exists in PvE also exists in Gambit, though it seems like a lot of it has gone out the window in its present incarnation. Excess Heavy ammunition is something I’d want to see removed since it’s always been a problem that appears to be getting worse with time. But, at the end of the day, I love Gambit and all I want to do is come home from work, sit down, and have a good time. Whatever the case may be, I like this mode and want to see it gain even more popularity in the future!
Let’s take a break from the game for a while and talk about your path into streaming and how you came to be the person you are today in the Destiny community. Do you have any memorable highs or instructive lows to share?
So, as I previously said, I’ve been in it from the beginning, but it all began because I was a long-time lurker in Twitch conversations. I didn’t stop being a lurker until I went to PC gaming, but once I did, it was much simpler for me to communicate with the people I wanted to support.
It all began while I was watching a buddy of mine compete back when Not Forgotten was still a thing. I’d simply sit there and edit for them while he went around with his very skilled pals, and it was through him that I met folks like illPhysics. It was fantastic because I saw that I began to open myself more, finally bringing me to the conclusion that “Hey, let’s give this streaming thing some razzle-dazzle.” Because of the way he handles himself and how he really cares about developing a community, Physics is still one of the content providers I look up to. I’d like to believe it influenced me to develop my own method of bringing people together. At the end of the day, I’m not sure whether I’ll become a fixture in the Destiny community, but I like meeting new people, talking with them on social media, simply hanging around, laughing at the simplest things, and making others happy. I don’t have other epic-high moments except from this one, since being acknowledged by Bungie is certainly the greatest honor.
Your community is wonderful, and I believe that community is a crucial component of creating that is frequently underestimated. What about your community inspires you the most, and what advise would you provide to someone trying to make their impact in the gaming world?
Thank you very much! My community name is House of Wolves, which is inspired by both the DLC and wolves, since I believe them to be my pack and home. It also helps that wolves are my favorite animal, and one of my favorite aspects of my town is how family-oriented it is. What motivates me the most about my gaming community is how much they share my beliefs of becoming better people in general. I not only preach but also practice compassion, and I do all in my ability to provide kindness and be the type of person I would have looked up to as a child. I sometimes lecture people of my community about the significance of being “the better person,” demonstrating compassion even in tough circumstances. I appreciate how my community can turn around and extend that compassion to others, and it means the world to me when people contact me or come up to me and say that being a part of my community has helped them a lot in their lives. My community and the Destiny macrocosm have saved my life in many ways over the years, and that is what motivates me to give back as much as I can. We can only be the greatest version of ourselves, and I hope I’m doing a good job of instilling these values in my students, particularly the younger ones. At the end of the day, my community humbles me because without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today, and my thanks and admiration are limitless!
Are there any difficulties you’d want to share from your gaming career? A difficult game, featuring problems such as becoming more popular and creating a niche?
Acceptance has been key for me. Communities are complicated, living entities with many diverse aspects to them. For a time, it was all about gaining that much-desired approval, but as I grew more visible and saw other members of the community, I understood there was more to it, and I recognized that the power of social media is a duty that should not be taken lightly. Don’t get me wrong: I’ll never pretend to be someone else to satisfy someone else, but that doesn’t mean that compassion isn’t at the heart of all I do.
Even though both of these qualities might be tough to maintain, I admire honesty and individuals with a true heart. As a result, one of the most difficult obstacles I’ve had in gaming has been accepting the fact that there are certain things I’ll never be good at, and that’s completely OK. It doesn’t make me any less of a player just because I can’t solo challenging material (and don’t like it as much as others do). I see a lot of individuals who are depressed as a result of it, and I attempt to help others realize their worth while fighting my own self-doubt. At the end of the day, I’m happiest when I’m doing my own thing and surrounded by nice people who don’t make me feel terrible about who I am and accept me for who I am.
I knew there was a reason I was drawn to your positive vibes! Switching gears a little, online games seem to be growing more and more common, and this does not appear to be changing anytime soon. What are your thoughts on the present status of gaming and how do you believe the industry can improve?
Honestly? I usually play Destiny, so my emphasis is very narrowed to that, but I do believe that accessibility is critical. I play PC games with a controller, and I know a lot of people who don’t like it, but it’s critical for the gaming industry to continue to make games accessible to all players, because whether you play one game or all of them, everyone should have the opportunity to experience the incredible stories told in video games. It is, at least for me, a location where people may get away from the stresses of life. Destiny is just the beginning of my path, but it has helped me much in dealing with challenges such as mental health. I’m really grateful that gaming has become more common, particularly during the epidemic, and I truly feel that it’s because of that home away from home that gamers have been among the people who have flourished the most in the face of adversity.
Alright. So. This is probably my favorite topic to ask people since the possibilities are endless: What would you construct if you could design your own fantasy expansion and subclass? Believe me when I say that no concept is too odd!
I’d love to see SIVA tech make a comeback from Clovis Bray, maybe even as a subclass! That’s a notion that has blown me away with some of the community’s inventiveness; everyone takes the in-game narrative and takes it to completely new areas.
I’d also want to see another expansion in which Gambit plays a major part, or even one that delves further into history, such as the collapse of the Golden Age. We have mythology, but I’d want to be able to witness more of the beginnings of the Vanguard (RIP Cayde!) and characters like Lord Shaxx in the real game. Apart from that, I’m clueless. Now that you’ve placed that seed in my mind, this is absolutely something I’ll have to consider about!
I see that my big strategy of having people obsessed with “what might be” hypotheses is working very well. Now for the next question! What is your favorite character and why? This is the place to nerd out hard, my buddy! Also, since I like love, who is your favorite “ship” (in-game romance, both canon and non-canon), because Osiris and Saint are two characters I would die for, lol!
Over the years, Lord Shaxx has always been my favorite character – I’m sorry, Drifter! There’s something about him that I like, and the fact that we don’t know nearly enough about him adds to the intrigue. I like his charm and the fact that he is the sort of guy that would give me a huge hug anytime I’m not feeling well. He has the huge daddy bear energy that I need from time to time! That PvP encouragement? Tell me that isn’t the most awesome thing you’ve ever seen. If he were real, like a personal trainer or something, I’d let him beat me into shape any day! I don’t really have a “shipping” relationship, but I do think Osiris and Saint are very cute. Saint’s commitment to Osiris is exactly the kind of love tale I’d want to witness, and I’m looking forward to seeing where the present plot leads!
