Final Fantasy XIV is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix. The game was released in September 2010 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Mac OS X.
The ff14 best mounts 2021 is a list of the 10 most popular mounts in Final Fantasy XIV. This list ranks the top 10 mounts by their popularity and includes a brief description about each mount.
Kawaii, a Japanese term that encompasses qualities such as cuteness and adorability, is a significant cultural export from Japan.
It’s deeply ingrained in everything we like about Japanese culture.
Almost every shnen manga/anime has a charming creature (sometimes a human) that adds humor to an otherwise serious story.
Japanese video games, of course, are no exception.
While there are lots of serious and important moments in Final Fantasy XIV (primarily in the Main Scenario questline), there is also a lot of kawaii throughout the game, even in the mount choices.
It is up to each player to decide whether to ride one of the game’s frightening dragons or high-tech machinations.
I like the Mount Roulette function (a button that selects a mount for you at random), and seeing a member of the cutie squad pop up after a series of intense mounts can be a great mood-lifter.
Check out my top ten choices for the cutest of them all if you’re wanting to add some Je ne sais kawaii to your mount collection.
Eldthurs is number ten.
All Rights Reserved / SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD. Image source
This is the oddest choice on the list, but bear with me.
I’m aware that Eldthurs is a colossal fiery yeti. And I know I just finished talking about how to balance a collection of threatening horses with fun ones.
When I look at Eldthurs, though, all I see is a big ol’ goofball.
In addition, if Hello Kitty’s face is considered the gold standard for kawaii characteristics, Eldthurs’ derpface may be used as a fair comparison.
Eldthurs constantly seems to be chewing on a large chunk of sod, and the backward flying motion is endearingly silly.
Eldthurs, although not traditionally adorable (little with cartoonish characteristics), fits into a few categories for me, one of which is cute.
The Eldthurs Horn may be obtained by unlocking Gold Coffers in Eureka Pyros’ Forbidden Land (quite a rare drop).
Fat Moogle (nine)
All Rights Reserved / SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD. Image source
In the Final Fantasy series, Moogles have been around for quite some time.
They’re also probably the series’ first examples of the kawaii style.
The Chubby Moogle mount has you sitting on a flowery bench suspended from, well, a really fat and cute Moogle.
I’m having a hard time getting past the back legs!
Two little Moogles swirl about with instruments, serenading you to your goal while tiny wings do their best to keep you afloat.
Tip: The mount’s soundtrack is from Thornmarch Extreme, so if you don’t like it, disable it in the options.
The Fat Moogle Bugle can be bought for $29.99 from the FFXIV Online Store.
Carbuncle (n.)
All Rights Reserved / SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD. Image source
Carbuncle is a charming mix between a fox, a dog, a cat, and the legendary nine-tailed kyuubi from Japanese mythology that has gone through numerous incarnations in the Final Fantasy series.
One feature has remained constant: the presence of a valuable diamond between the eyes.
Carbuncle has cute cat paws, large inquisitive eyes, and a wonderful body glow that shines continuously.
At night, this mount seems to be fantastic to ride.
The Summoner has long been linked with Carbuncle, although the mount may be tamed by any profession.
It also comes in three hues (Aquamarine, Rubellite, and Citrine), so choose your favorite or all three!
How to acquire it: Each color Carbuncle Whistle costs $24 in the FFXIV Online Store.
7. Panda Mystic
All Rights Reserved / SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD. Image source
Almost everyone agrees that pandas are adorable.
There are numerous videos showing pandas sneezing, snuggling, eating bamboo, and losing their footing — they’re basically a never-ending supply of cuteness.
In Final Fantasy XIV, you may ride a panda, which is good news for everyone!
Mystic Panda walks with an endearingly sluggish stride on the ground, evoking our common panda fantasies.
Bamboo leaves burst out from its body as it is flying, and it runs above haloes of light.
The Mystic Panda Pipe may be bought for $24 from the Final Fantasy XIV Online Store.
6. The Bigger Cat
All Rights Reserved / SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD. Image source
You’re welcomed with an endearing meow as you snuggle comfortably on top of a chubby calico with its paws tucked beneath as you call Fatter Cat.
The loaf, I think, is the scientific name for this resting posture.
Fatter Cat has a really adorable run with the classic squashed kawaii face.
But it’s the walking animation that grabs my attention.
The nicest part about this mount is those four portly pink paws working in perfect harmony.
Square Enix is well aware that the feet are the prettiest element of the game. Why else would you place a teeny-tiny pink bow on each paw?
The Fatter Cat Bugle can be bought for $24 from the FFXIV Online Store.
5. The Kolossus of Korpokkur
All Rights Reserved / SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD. Image source
Korpokkur are typically very tiny – the first one we encounter is the Korpokkur Kid minion from the St. Mocianne’s Arboretum dungeon – but even when blown up to enormous proportions, their charming characteristics remain.
Check. Squished face.
Check for a chubby physique.
Check for twiggy limbs.
This mount is a multilayered mossy puffball of exceptional size.
It has a lovely glow, sparkles, and sheds light rings in flight, much like many of the other mounts on this list.
What’s not to like about a chubby green sprout with beady tiny eyes?
The Korpokkur Kolossus Horn may be purchased for 750,000 MGP at the Gold Saucer.
Mikoshi is number four.
All Rights Reserved / SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD. Image source
The Mikoshi mount is one of the biggest on our list, but it’s also one of the cutest, with eight tiny Namazu carrying your character proudly in an ornate palanquin.
With their tiny gowns and circlets, these comical fishes captured my heart. And each of them is equipped with a bell that jingles when they leap.
One Namazu doesn’t seem to be enjoying the time of its life, but the pained expression on its face makes it the most endearing of the group.
I’m hoping for a lunch break very soon!
What gets me is Mikoshi in flight (the Namazu haphazardly dangling from the palanquin). It’s a miracle they haven’t fallen off.
There’s also a cute mount-specific activity called ‘Wasshoi,’ when the group tosses sparkles in the air and cheers up.
After achieving Rank 8 (Bloodsworn) with the tribe, the Mikoshi Flute may be bought for 20 Namazu Koban.
3. Ronka’s Great Vessel
All Rights Reserved / SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD. Image source
This mount’s name betrays its actual magnitude.
And what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in cuteness.
With the exception of the Lalafell, almost every playable race will look tiny on this horse.
The Great Serpent of Ronka, formerly a minion prize for completing a questline in The Rak’Tika Greatwood, is housed in the Great Vessel. It resembles a hybrid of a fat bee and a caterpillar rather than a snake… However, the snake concept is there, and it is endearing regardless.
The tiny man gets a front-row seat to any excursions you chose to embark on, poking its round head out of its pot.
As you soar, musical notes drift around you, and the mount’s special action “Peculiar Light” stays as a benefit from utilizing it on the beast tribe missions.
After achieving Rank 7 (Sworn) with the tribe, the Ronkan Flute may be bought for 18 Qitari Compliments.
Porxie, the Portly
All Rights Reserved / SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD. Image source
You’d get the Portly Porxie if Dumbo the elephant was a pig.
Porxie has the most adorable beady eyes, stumpy feet, and a laid-back attitude that makes you almost feel guilty for riding it about!
Those huge floppy ears, on the other hand, are up to the task.
One aspect of the mount description that worries me is Porxie’s fondness for sausages…
It also has a mount-specific action called “Siphon Snout,” which sees it sucking up all the air in its immediate vicinity.
It seems that this tiny porker enjoys keeping himself stuffed.
After achieving Rank 7 (Sworn) with the Pixie beast tribe, the Portly Porxie Horn may be bought for 18 Fae Fancy.
1. Karakul, Albino
All Rights Reserved / SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD. Image source
The Albino Karakul, a puffball with twiggy limbs, is at the top of the list.
It’s difficult not to fall head over heels in love at first sight.
It has the prettiest twisted tail and tilted nose.
Karakul are typically black, thus this one is unique (and more similar to a real-life sheep), as well as a black sheep among its type.
It has a beautiful little bell hanging from its neck, and every now and then it would shake out its head, bringing those tiny ears along for the trip.
To get the Albino Karakul Horn (8,400 Skybuilders’ Scrips), you must be a master craftsman taking part in the Ishgardian Restoration.
