Season 4 of Netflix’s gritty crime drama comes to a close and it is all action, murder, sex trafficking and money laundering. The season finale has the smartly-written script that we have come to expect from Ozark.
The “ozark season 4 cancelled” is a TV show that was supposed to be aired in January 2019. However, the show has been canceled due to low ratings.
SERIES REVIEW – The Mexican cartel’s narrative of a money-laundering accountant and his family finished with a “bang” (haha), but the fourth season, which is the last season, might be even more dramatic…
Accounting for the mafia is both a lucrative and dangerous profession. For a long time, we’ve known this through movies and TV shows, but the Netflix series Ozark, which has been airing since 2017, provides us a deeper look into the’mysteries’ of money laundering by following the lives of a family engaged in it.
With the protagonist character, Marty Byrde (played by Jason Bateman), his wife Wendy (Laura Linney), and their children Charlotte (Sofia Hublitz) and Jonah (Skylar Gaertner), the series rapidly became a distinctive and fascinating invention, but the other characters are all quite unique and wonderful as well.
The Byrde family’s everyday existence is filled with drugs, money laundering, murders, and other cartel crimes.
The Byrds continue their risky tango with strange folks you’d run away from in real life in Ozark’s fourth and final season.
What began as a narrative about regular individuals becoming involved in the world of drugs and money laundering has turned into a family issue. This is particularly true now that the Byrde kids have grown up and discovered what Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy (Laura Linney) are up to.
As a result, the children’s position is even more prominent this season, yet the two principal parents’ roles are still emphasized. The series, like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, excels at developing and portraying its supporting characters, and we’ll be pulling for practically all of them – or, if we despise them, hoping for them to perish.
This time, the Navarros aren’t joking…
The Byrde’s connection with Omar Navarro (Felix Solis), the drug lord who, as soft-spoken and placid as he is, has revealed his ruthlessness to such a degree, is the subject of the divided final season (currently seven episodes, with more to come).
Navarro, too, must deal with domestic politics and the US Drug Enforcement Administration, further complicating Marty and Wendy’s lives and making the never-ending game more more dangerous for them.
In addition to the Mexican drug cartel, the Byrdes must contend with Darlene (Lisa Emery), a schizophrenic and unpredictable woman whose dedication to the domestic drug trade risks inflaming Navarro and his men’s rage and trapping Marty and Wendy between two flames. Last but not least, the Kansas City mafia, commanded by Frank and his son Frank J.R., is involved in Darlene’s heroin business.
Marty is now attempting to negotiate his way out of any and all obligations.
As the (mainly) cold-blooded stalwart Marty is continually tested both his financial acumen and his ability to speak quickly and escape being caught or murdered, showrunner Chris Mundy has successfully guided the plot from one apparently impossible corner to the next. Bateman was nominated for three Emmys for this role, but his lone victory was for directing the series.
Of course, the Byrdes are now at odds with one other and other members of their family, all while attempting, maybe stupidly, but with much effort, to return to Chicago, where it all started. Ruth (Julia Garner), whose friendship with the Byrds has been shaken by the events of season three, exemplifies this persistence.
Let us (wait) for the end…
Netflix’s “Ozark” isn’t really a novel concept after shows like Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul, so its appeal is based on the qualities that typically define the best series: great casting, great story and dialogue, and truly unpredictable twists and turns to keep each season and episode sufficiently exciting while cleverly building on the previous ones.
The second half of the fourth season will determine if the series and the Byrdes can maintain their momentum and give the series a proper send-off. I’m looking forward to the second half and ending since this “half-season” has been thrilling, complex, and frequently humorous or amusingly cynical enough.
