Microsoft has been making a push into the gaming market, building up their Xbox division and developing cloud-native MMOs. The Finnish studio Mainframe is also partnering with Microsoft on this initiative to make it more of an open platform for all developers in general.
The “mmorpg meaning” is a game genre that has been around for a while. The term first came into use in the early 90s, but it wasn’t until the late 2000s that the genre really took off. Today, there are some popular games in this genre such as World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2.

According to many reports, Xbox is collaborating with Finnish company Mainframe on a new cloud-native MMO dubbed Pax Dei. The game may be played on any device since it is scalable. Mobile phones and tablets may be used to do small chores like as crafting and resource management, although desktop and laptop computers are better suited to more demanding aspects of the game such as raids and combat.
The term “cloud-native” refers to the ability for players to play the same game on any device. The company is also looking at possible gameplay aspects that can only be implemented in a game that is predominantly played on a distant server.
Microsoft is hoping that Pax Dei will provide a chance to establish best practices for this kind of game. Then, in the future, other studios may use the same playbook.
Pax Dei is a prototype of sorts. Microsoft is working on a methodology for future projects that may include comparable technologies. Microsoft has recruited Kim Swift, the creator of Portal and Left 4 Dead, as the new senior director of Xbox Cloud Gaming. This technology might be used in a future game by Hideo Kojima.
Kim is going to put together a team focused on cloud-based novel experiences, which will help us achieve our goal of connecting 3 billion players to play our games… I’m very enthusiastic about the prospect of high-fidelity gaming on a phone […] that’s definitely the carrot I’m pursuing. — Peter Wyse, head of publishing at Xbox Game Studios
