I finally got my hands on Pokémon Legends: Arceus after what felt like an eternity of waiting since the initial announcement. This is without a doubt my most eagerly awaited Pokémon game in over two decades. As you know, I’m a diehard Pokémon lover who never misses a game. I eagerly anticipate the introduction of new Pokémon games. I’m always thrilled about new games, whether they’re totally new or remakes of older games.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus, on the other hand, piqued my curiosity for a different reason. Not just because it’s one of my favorite series, but also because it elevates the stakes in the RPG genre, which is also one of my favorites. Of course, the open-world roaming didn’t disappoint, but is this component of the espionage game enough to keep me interested? Do I get so engrossed in this trip that I lose track of time? Fortunately, yes to all of these questions.
This is the Pokémon game I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. It’s a logical progression for the series, leading to an intriguing new direction for the brand. Sure, I’ll always enjoy the original Pokémon games’ conventional design, gameplay, and mechanics, but Arceus offers up a whole new world of possibilities. So let’s get started and see what makes this adventure so special.
Legends from the skies
Let’s begin by descending via a sky portal. What a stunning arrival! I was perplexed, perplexed, and perplexed, just like my imaginary protégé. I was charmed by the gaming world from the minute I stepped onto the beach, even though all I needed at the time was an explanation for what had just transpired.

However, now that we’ve returned to the beginning, the world need a pokédex, which is your responsibility. That in and of itself is a lot of joy for me. I admire how you started the first one, and in doing so, you started an important chapter in history.
Of course, in order to finish it, you must capture all of the critters in the Hisui area, and I adore the new methods to do so. To begin with, you can see them even if you’re flying quite high in the sky. Although you can see the Pokémon below you, you must be on the ground to toss balls at them. If you see a Pokémon, you have a few choices on how to approach it. You may battle and weaken them in the traditional style that all Pokémon fans are familiar with. You may also sneak up on them and approach them in a stealthy manner.
It’s a fun and interesting twist on the standard recipe, in my opinion. You can toss a ball at the Pokémon if you crouch down and keep out of their line of sight. You have a chance to capture them if it lands properly. You may also improve your chances by striking the monster with a ball from behind, which will also result in a combat. If you strike them from behind with the ball carrying your Pokémon, they will be stunned for two rounds, leaving them defenseless to your attacks if you don’t employ a “strong” attack.
The two combat styles that will debut as part of a new system for battling Pokémon are Strong and Agile. This mechanic adds complexity to a system that is already entertaining. Strong assaults do more damage, but they come at a cost: they generally let your opponent to perform two attacks before you get another turn. Alternatively, you may choose the agile style, which allows you to make two strikes at once at the cost of damage. Battles get a feeling of strategy as a result of this. I like considering my alternatives, and I believe it is essential to beating my fiercest opponents.
There are, however, other methods to strengthen your team, such as grit. Again, we’re talking about something that has the potential to change the course of a war yet is simple to overlook. When you’re up against an opponent, it’s all too common to find oneself towards the rear of the pack. To be honest, that occurred to me often at first. I stopped attacking second in combat, at least not while my team’s speed was boosted, until I realized that courage is a metric that amplifies other statistics.
Your team isn’t the only one who needs to be at its best. Due to the fact that pokemon wander free and might attack you, evasion is essential. Fortunately, it’s simple to accomplish and sufficient. It’s also a necessary skill for fighting aristocratic Pokémon, which is crucial to the plot.
In addition to lowering you to the sandy beach below, the split in the sky from which you fall also discharges weird energies on the noble Pokémon, animals venerated by the Diamond and Pearl clans, each accountable for a different lord (and lady). You’ll have to calm them down, and these bouts are perhaps the most fun. There’s a lot on the line here, which makes these battles even more thrilling than usual.
It’s a little too huge for the open road.

For an RPG junkie like myself, the chance to explore a wide world and varied sceneries is a dream come true, and the fact that I can do it all while riding mystical beasts is the cherry on top. It’s fantastic to ride noble Pokémon from the sky, the sea, or the ground.
I like what I can contribute in the world, but I sometimes find myself wanting for more, or at the very least a sense of fulfillment. However, I find that walking might get tedious after a while. It’s a big, wide world, yet it also seems empty. Plus, it doesn’t quite accomplish the aesthetic beauty I was hoping for, which is, to be honest, my main issue.
It’s not a really impressive orgy.
I’m playing Arceus on a Switch OLED model, but the visuals aren’t great, and the frame rate reduction when docked isn’t helping matters. But, particularly when seen on the OLED screen, I can’t deny how alive the world appears. It’s also entertaining to experiment with various weather conditions, climates, and locales. Even yet, as much as I like exploring what is now known as the Sinnoh area, I can’t ignore the graphical flaws, particularly because other Switch games, such as Breath of the Wild, seem better.
Despite these flaws, Pokémon Legends: Arceus accomplishes its goal of providing new concepts and a new way to explore a world filled with fascinating animals. Is this a work of art? No, it isn’t, but I believe it has built the groundwork for a fantastic sequel.
